Cleaning Up Drainage Along Highway 70

Road crews will be cleaning the ditches and drains along Highway 70 this week to ensure proper drainage.

While T-DOT will remove debris from right of ways and drainage systems outside city limits, Cookeville Public Works Director Greg Brown said within the city, some drainage system debris remains.

“The city part shouldn’t take too long,” Brown said. “We didn’t have as much ditches filled up I think as they did in the county. Ours probably won’t take as long as theirs will.”

In the coming weeks, Brown said contractors would return to clean city drainage and stay until the project is completed.

“Well during heavy rains I’m sure the ditches are filled up, it’s not draining properly,” Brown said. “It’s probably spilling out in the roads or in the yards. We’ve got a few in town that’s got a few problems that we’ll probably look at them and see what happens with those.”
