Clay County is searching for a new general session and juvenile judge following the expected departure of Judge Diana Monroe.
Mayor Dale Reagan said that after Judge Monroe was selected as the new director of the Clay County School System, the county began the process of filling that position.
“They’ve got to be somebody that really desires to do that,” Reagan said. “And certainly someone with a background of general law and certainly criminal law because they hear a lot of cases on different aspects and everything like that. Someone who I’m going to say has an open mind about them.”
Other qualifications include being at least 30-years-old, a resident of Tennessee for at least 5 years, and a resident of Clay County for at least one year. Candidates must also be licensed to practice law in the state.
Reagan said that they hope to fill the position by the next county commission meeting on December 6th, with the candidate starting on the first of the new year.
