Clay Schools’ Diana Monroe Calls First Few Weeks “Eye-Opening”

New Clay County Director of Schools Diana Monroe said that her first few weeks have been “eye-opening.”

Monroe said that she’s spent her time trying to understand the needs and wants of those in the system.

“I have worked extremely hard and I’ve been trying to meet and greet and investigate, talk to all the administrators, the teachers the students,” Monroe said. “I’ve talked to bus drivers, custodians, cooks, teacher assistants, everybody in the school system. And I’ve just gotten their needs, and wants, and what they would like to see improved.”

Monroe said that she has been pleasantly surprised by the amazing teachers in the system going from Kindergarten all the way up to high school. She said that it’s the teachers who have helped students and the system as a whole succeed.

Monroe said that she plans on finishing the semester as strongly as it started. She said that with much to work on, she’s already set her sights on goals for next school year.

“We’ve already begun planning next year,” Monroe said. “We’re going try to end this year on a real strong note. We’ve been in school all the time, COVID has been hard and it had hit hard in Clay County. I think we’re about to get through that hopefully, and we’re just going to finish strong and start next year with our wonderful staff.”
