Clay March Unemployment Highest In State

Clay County’s unemployment rate ranked highest in the state during March at 4.6 percent.

Most economists believe rates between three and five percent rank as low unemployment. 31 of the state’s 95 counties reported March unemployment rates below three percent. No Upper Cumberland counties reached those numbers, but Fentress, Putnam and White Counties all finished March with three percent rates.

Fentress County saw its unemployment rate drop almost an entire percentage point from February.

Cumberland County unemployment numbers finished March at 3.9 percent. Pickett and Van Buren stand at 3.7 percent, with Van Buren County down some 0.8 percent from February.

Elsewhere, Dekalb and Warren County rates stood at 3.6 percent, with Jackson County at 3.5 percent and Overton County 3.3 percent.

Clay County’s rate remained unchanged from February.
