Clay County’s Unemployment Rate Highest In State

Clay County unemployment rose 0.7 percent in November, giving the community the state’s highest unemployment rate.

November unemployment jumped to 5.9 percent in November, up from 5.2 percent across Clay County. Clay stands as one of four Tennessee counties with unemployment over five percent.

Across the Upper Cumberland, November unemployment rates rose 0.5 percent in Cumberland, 0.4 percent in Pickett County. Slight rises occurred in Fentress Jackson, and White County. The biggest decrease in unemployment rates came in Warren County (0.8 percent) and Van Buren County (0.5).

Putnam County unemployement remained flat at 3.1 percent

Statewide, unemployment stands at 3.4 percent in November, a 0.1 percent decrease from October.
