Clay County SADD Club Receives Award From TN Highway Safety Office

Clay County High School’s Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) club received the Silver Award from the Tennessee Highway Safety Office for its work in the TN Reduce Teen Crashes program.

Anti-Drug Coalition Coordinator Daniel Roberts said that the award comes from earning points in the program through the various activities their members conceptualized and implemented.

“Simply as just putting up a safe driving banner at the school and the community,” Roberts said. “We got points for that as well, a ‘Hands-Free Tennessee’ banner.”

Roberts said they also got points for a “Honk If You Hate Tobacco” campaign, participating in National Drug and Alcohol Fact Week, and simply registering with the program. He said the goal of all of the activities is to reduce traffic crashes.

The group earned 900 points, bringing in the silver award. Roberts said the group feels very honored to have received the award.

“It’s important to know that the kids are out here implementing and they’re getting recognized for the hard work that they’re doing,” Roberts said. “It’s an honor to have received it. The SADD club encourages other SADD clubs or other similar organizations to participate in the program for this upcoming school year.”
