Clay County Makes Final Loan Payment On Gov. Complex

Clay County will no longer worry about paying off a loan used to build the county government complex.

Mayor Dale Reagan said the county made the final payment on the $615,000 loan earlier this year.

“The commissioners worked hard and done a lot of good decision making when it comes to the budgets,” Reagan said. “It was set up for like 38 years and we were able to pay that off in about eight years. I’m proud of that and I want the commissioners to be proud of that, as well as the citizens.”

The county had to borrow the money in order to complete the $1 million project. Grant funding helped pay for part of the project as well.

Reagan said Clay County decided to construct the facility in 2010 after being involved in an ADA lawsuit over the old courthouse.

“We had to do something,” Reagan said. “We were able to build a courtroom facility and move all of our elected official’s offices down here.”

County government began operations in the facility in 2012.
