Clay County Library Kicks-off Change for Change Fundraiser

Clay County Library will kick -off its Change for Change fundraiser today.

Judith Cutright directs library services at the Clay County Library.

“So what we are attempting to do is to raise 500 thousand dollars and that would add on 2,700 square feet to the current building,” Cutright said. “It would add on space for meeting rooms, which is often requested. It would also add on ADA-compliant restrooms and a children’s area.”

The building originates from the 1970’s. Cutright said the library does not comply with ADA standards.

The library raised close to 95 thousand dollars so far, Cutright said.

At the Change for Change kick-off, various representatives will join the fundraiser. Tennessee Secretary of State Trae Hargett, Senator Mark Pody, and Representative Kelly Keisling will meet with citizens.

“They are coming to support of the library and see what we have and what we actually need,” Cutright said. “We are hoping too that they will be willing to help contribute to our building fund.”

Cutright said the library asks for citizens to donate their spare change to help pay for the library improvements.

“Although this is the kick-off the Change for Change, anytime anyone has any spare change and would like to contribute,” Cutright said. “We also do take dollar bills if people are willing to contribute. We would just like to do our part to improve Clay County.”

Cutright said the library only has two people on staff and welcomes anyone who wishes to volunteer with fundraising.

The Change for Change Kick-off starts on Monday, May 14 at 1:00 PM at the Clay County Library.
