Clay County High School Attributes ACT Success To Students

Clay County High School said that the success of the class of 2021’s ACT scores is a result of its hardworking students.

Principal Teia Arms said that the class was number one in the state for ACT testing improvements. She said that 48 percent of the class achieved the benchmark score of 21 or higher.

“As much as we would like to take credit that class is just a special class,” Arms said. “And all the teachers in the county not just the high school teachers contributed. The material for the ACT goes down all the way to the elementary grades. That class was just an all-around great class.”

Arms said that ACT testing is highly-emphasized in the school system. She said that while they also stress the EOCs, they know that ACT scores open the door for potential scholarship opportunities.

Arms said that teachers incorporate questions and ACT tutoring into their lesson plans. She said that they also reward the students who do well to show them the school is proud.

“We actually do gift cards if they grow a certain amount they get $10,” Arms said. “And if they up it a little bit it’s $25, and we even go all the way up to $50.”

Arms said that each year they have the same benchmarks and goals and try to help their students reach them. She said that they’re hoping that the class of 2022 can have just as much success as the previous year.
