Clay County Awarded Industrial Site Development Grant

Clay County has received a Site Development Grant for the Mitchell Street Industrial Property.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kevin Donaldson said the grant will pay for due diligence studies and a grading plan.

“What that will include for us is a variety of things there,” Donaldson said. “Additional shovel testing on the site, additional soil borings on the site, and also the development of a master grading plan for what we hope will eventually be pad ready sites there.”

Donaldson said the Industrial Development board sought out the 52-acre Mitchell Street property several years ago.

“The Industrial Development Board here is always on the lookout for good property,” Donaldson said. “That can be turned into marketable industrial development sites.”

County Mayor Dale Reagan said the grant will provide 59 thousand dollars with a five percent match on funding.

“In order for us to be competitive in the market out there, we have got to have some inventory to offer,” Reagan said. “And right now we don’t have that. So this is helping us get to that point.”

The Site Development Grant helps communities achieve Select Tennessee site certification and invest in infrastructure.
