Clay Co. Schools Prep for Coronavirus

Clay County Schools have a plan in place to address the ongoing coronavirus threat.

“We’re going to let out on Wednesday through the following week, and then we go on Spring Break,” Director Of Schools Matt Eldridge said. “We’re roughly going to have two-and-a-half-weeks that we’re going to be out. During the Spring Break we’re going to reevaluate and see if we get any guidance from the state and what we may be doing.”

Eldridge said that county officials have been keeping an eye on the developing situation.

“Thirteen to fifteen school directors met this weekend in Cookeville, and we talked about what’s happening in Chattanooga and in Nashville, and we know it’s coming this way,” Eldridge said. “I want every child to get the best education, but I wouldn’t jeopardize any one’s health. So, we’re trying to be a little proactive. I’d rather be safe first thing.”

Clay County’s closure puts it on the list of many other districts closing throughout the Upper Cumberland.
