Clay Applies For Child Care Grant To Improve Provider Facilities

Clay County applying for grant funding to improve the sole licensed child care facility in the county.

Mayor Dale Reagan said if awarded, Nana’s Child Care would utilize the funding.

“They’ll be able to improve their playground equipment and fencing and things such as that and everything,” Reagan said. “The way I understand it is you can only apply for it if you’re an existing child care center.”

Reagan said he hopes the grant can help an ongoing issue of limited child care. Reagan said with only one licensed facility, growing the county is a challenge.

This grant application is specifically for the counties of the Upper Cumberland. About $1 million is available for the region to share. The funding comes from the state departments of Community Economic Development and Human Services.

Reagan said he learned of the opportunity while attending a UCDD meeting. Reagan said he expressed great interest at the time. Overton and Putnam Counties have also applied for the grant.
