City of Sparta Soliciting Floating Dock Bids

The City of Sparta will accept bids for a floating dock throughout July.

Mayor Jeff Young said the dock is part of a $42,000 Tourism Enhancement Grant project at South Carter Park.

“That’s a custom build, so a built-to-site piece of equipment. So we are getting bids on that now, and hopefully, we will have those in the next few weeks,” Young said. “And just as soon as everything is approved and they sign off on it, everything will be installed.”

Tourism Enhancement Grant will pay for the construction of the aluminum kayak dock and a new pavilion at the park.

“It’s a great asset for communities like us that helps us get things,” Young said. “And speed things along that otherwise would take years to save and budget the money for.”

Young said the project aims to provide better kayak access onto the Calfkiller River.

The Board of Aldermen and Mayor approved soliciting dock bids Wednesday.
