Celina In The Running For ‘Town Takeover’

The city of Celina will submit a promotional video to HGTV’s “Home Town Takeover.”

Mayor Tonya Spears said they hope to finish the video by Tuesday.

“I just think it’s an unconventional approach to maybe draw attention to our town and two, you know, we could use a little help and just thought it would be fun. We shared it on social media and it was all positive responses and so we thought we’d just go ahead and do a video and put it out there and see what happens.”

The HGTV project focuses on why American small towns need face lifts to maintain the history and traditions. Spears said the video will include shots from the court house, downtown buildings, and surrounding areas.

Spears said she hopes to receive the much needed help since it’s been difficult to gain grants to fund repairs.

“Well it’s just some of the buildings are older and just need a little TLC. We do have a historic court house that has some issues. [Some work on the] windows and maybe outside, it just needs a little help,” Spears said.

It’s unclear when Celina will hear back from HGTV, but Spears thinks they win anyway from participating and putting their name in the ring.

“Home Town Takeover” will air as a six episode program next year.
