The Celina Board of Aldermen has rezoned the property where the closed Cumberland River Hospital sits.
Mayor Luke Collins said the change was recommended from the city’s zoning committee. Collins said residential developments will no longer be allowed on the land.
“Just to clean it up,” Collins said. “The way it was it was pretty opened ended. It really wasn’t zoned much, so we just wanted to get it for medical use.”
Collins said the zoning would also ensure that future owners of the facility would be limited to a critical access hospital. Collins said a zoning variance could be requested by a owner in the future if deemed necessary.
Collins said residential developments on the property today are grandfathered in.
As for the initiative to reopen the facility, Collins said negotiations are continuing. The hospital remains under the ownership of Johnny Presley.
