The arrival of October means the arrival of haunted trails, forests, and houses across the Upper Cumberland.
Dinosaurs, scary clowns, and a slaughter chute are among the scary features at the Cedar Grove Volunteer Fire Department’s Haunted Trail in Van Buren County
Safety Officer Rebecca Bivins said that the trail started ten years ago as a fundraising idea for the department. She said its popularity and good cause are what bring it back every year.
“We keep expanding, changing,” Bivins said. “And hopefully the fact that this is all basically done because of the fire department, so people want to come out and support us.”
The haunted trail is the department’s biggest fundraising event of the year.
“It’s basically to do it all,” Bivins said. “It’s to upgrade our equipment, it’s to supply the fuel for the trucks, for the gear, for the training, it’s pretty much everything to keep up going.”
Bivins said that all ages are welcome to take part in the festive trail. She said she wants people to prepare accordingly when considering a visit. She said that the mile-long trail is outdoors in an isolated place, and people should wear proper footwear.
Bivins said tickets are $8 per person and kids under 5 get in free. The trail will be open every Friday and Saturday in October at 1876 Bone Cave Mountain Road.
