Cedar Avenue Project Still Underway, Almost Ready For Paving

Work on Cookeville’s Cedar Avenue road project continues.

Public Works Director Greg Brown said that widening and sidewalks from 4th Street to 7th Street are done. Crews continue working towards completion of the west side of Cedar from 4th Street to 2nd Street.

“You know we do this in addition to our regular jobs,” Brown said. “So we work on that when we can but then sometimes things happen where we have to leave it and do some other things. So it just depends on what happens on how long it will take. That and the weather.”

Brown said that work would begin on the east side of Cedar Avenue soon. He said after they finish that work, they’ll be ready to pave the whole project from 7th Street to 2nd Street.

Brown said the project is some 15 years in the making and is an extension of a CityScape idea.

“We’re widening the road and adding bike lanes and sidewalks and underground utilities and decorative lighting so it’s a lot more than just a repaving project,” Brown said.
