Cane Creek Sportsplex Youth Fields Now Have Paved Parking

Travel in and out of the Cane Creek Sportsplex youth fields will be smoother with the parking lot now renovated.

Leisure Service Director Rick Woods said the project has been needed for years now for both practical reasons and safety. Woods said the lot is now paved with lined spots and improved drainage to make parking more orderly and comfortable.

“Hopefully it gives them a nice smooth ride into the parking lot, identifies specific places for them to park, and keeps it orderly and makes it a better flow in and out of the parking lot,” Woods said.

Woods said until now, parking has been a free-for-all causing a hazard for children and pedestrians. The project also expanded the lot and created additional spaces.

Woods said the project identified and created handicapped spaces for people with mobility issues, and the pavement helps.

“That enhanced that opportunity for families with strollers and individuals in wheeled chairs and other wheeled devices that it gives them a place to be able to park and navigate comfortably to those lower fields,” Woods said.

Woods said the project was completed almost entirely in-house with the Public Works department handling grading, stormwater runoff, and design.

“They’re great to work with and they did a terrific job,” Woods said. “It was pretty smooth sailing with their work on it and their help.”

Woods said the department has known for some time that it is something that could increase cosmetic appeal and ease traffic flow on adjacent streets. Woods said when people can maneuver more smoothly within the lot, traffic on Jackson Street will move more freely. Woods said he believes the public will enjoy and appreciate the improvements.
