Byrdstown’s Good Neighbors Theatre Auditions For “Blood Heat”

Good Neighbors Theatre is hosting auditions for a new play titled “Blood Heat,” on March 7th and March 8th.

Secretary Susanne Miller said that Dr. J Edward Gore is writing a historical fiction play based on a real Upper Cumerbland figure who was prominent in the Civil War named Champ Ferguson.

“He was supposedly part of the Confederacy but he was more of a militia leader than an officer in the Confederacy,” Miller said. “So this play is based on a fictional person and his interactions with Champ Ferguson.”

Miller said they will audition for about 17 roles, mostly men. She said that anyone is welcome to audition, experienced or not.

“That’s the great thing about this play is that there are major roles but there are quite a number of roles that don’t require a lot of time on stage or memory work,” Miller said. “So we feel like we have an opportunity for anyone who would like to get involved.”

Miller said that people should come audition because although it’s a fictional story, it’s is based on truth. She said that sharing local history helps preserve it.

“I believe Champ is buried over in Sparta and he was born over in Clinton County so he spreads the gap between,” Miller said. “And he truly did a lot of his Civil War service in this area.”

Miller said that actors do not have to prepare audition materials. She said that rehearsals will run Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays leading up to the performances on June 3rd-5th.
