Byrdstown Struggling With Sink Hole Issues At Water Plant

Byrdstown has repaired one of its retention ponds as a state required improvement on its water system.

The outdoor body of water is located at the water plant for discharge proposes. Mayor Sam Gibson said sink holes have historically caused the pond to leak.

“That has been a continuous problem for the Byrdstown water district for a long time,” Gibson said. “This pond has been repaired a couple of time. This is at least the third time that I know of it being repaired.”

Gibson said the new liner will hopefully last a few years until a new concrete settling basin is built. Gibson said the project is already state approved through Pickett County’s and the town federal COVID money.

Gibson said once the new concrete basin is completed in a few years, Byrdstown should be up to all state standards.
