Byrdstown Replaces Clark Mountain Pump

Byrdstown water officials replaced a water pump at the Clark Mountain pump station after problems with the previous pump.

Byrdstown Mayor Sam Gibson said the water pump went out on the morning of December 1. Gibson said the town was made aware of the issue after several complaints were made about low water pressure in the area.

“Some of our customers were without water for most of the morning and part of the early afternoon,” Gibson said. “We had to go in on Sunday and replace it in order to get the water going in that particular area.”

Gibson said water officials are still not sure why the pump went out. Gibson said fortunately enough the town had a spare pump and the water has since restored to the area.

“We just happened to have one on standby,” Gibson said. “We try to keep things like that so that if we have one we can change it out without having to spend a week or two weeks ordering something to go back in place of it.”

Gibson said he is glad the town’s water officials were able to respond to a weekend issue fairly quickly.

“That doesn’t happen very often but when it does our people are really good about getting out and getting on it,” Gibson said. “We just hope it doesn’t happen too many times and it’s better if it is during the day when they are working but generally it’s not, you know those things happen quite often on weekends.”

Gibson said the water officials have been working tirelessly recently to resolve issues that a few areas have experienced in the past few weeks.

“We get them out and then something else will be there,” Gibson said. “So yeah they are just an ongoing situation and we just have to deal with it.”
