Byrdstown Lights The Tree Friday Night

Byrdstown welcomes in the holiday season Friday with an evening of fun, shopping and the lighting of the Christmas Tree.

Mayor Sam Gibson said the celebration will begin a marketplace event at the library, where residents can shop for gifts. A number of musical groups will provide the leadup to the lighting of the tree.

“We have a lot of lot of community that are new to Byrdstown and it gives them an opportunity to come out and to mingle and to see what is taking place in town,” Gibson said. “There’s not a lot of activities during this time of year. And so the town, we feel like it’s just good, good PR for the city to provide this to the people, to get them out, give them things to do and let them come out and see other people and and go back with the old traditional Christmas things.”

The city will also honor its Christmas Parade Grand Marshals Friday night, a celebration of local veterans. Gibson said the community is so thankful for the contributions of those veterans. The Marketplace begins at 3pm Friday and will continue Saturday, leading into the Christmas Parade.

“We’re honoring our veterans,” Gibson said. “Veterans will be there to help us to light the tree on Friday night. And we’ve got some wonderful Christmas caroling that will take place. Some good singers, that will be singing. And it’ll be cool, but it will be a wonderful, wonderful night for for the people while they’re there at the marketplace, visiting the the little different little shop areas, and continuing to listen to some music.”

Gibson said local church leaders will be on hand to share nativity scenes with residents. Kids will have a chance to visit with sheep and donkeys Friday night.
