The town of Byrdstown has a new Chief Financial Municipal Officer.
The Board of Aldermen approved the hiring of CPA David Melton Monday. Mayor Sam Gibson said Melton already helps create the town’s budget each year, so he was the best option.
“I think this is probably one of the smartest moves that we have made in a long time,” Gibson said. “A good long term move for all of us. We have to have a CMFO.”
Gibson said the hire now puts Byrdstown in compliance with state annotated code. The town received notification last month that each municipality is required to have one city employee with all requirements responsible for financial operations.
“He is good to work with,” Gibson said. “We will feel better to when we call him and ask questions and have him do things. Then, he will bill us for whatever they are.”
The resolution for the hiring will now go to the Comptroller’s Office for final approval, which Gibson said will most likely happen.
