McMinnville City Administrator Bill Brock announced his retirement this week.
Brock said he began thinking about retirement a few months ago.
“The more I looked into retirement it looked like and option I wanted to take. I’ve been here a little over 30-years and the city’s in good shape,” Brock said. “It makes me feel good that I can leave this particular position and not be run off or fired and a lot of people do in these positions.”
The 66-year-old Brock began working for the city in 1988 as public works director and served as interim city administrator since 2014.
Brock oversaw many projects while serving as city administrator and public works director. He said his biggest accomplishment was a $5 million downtown revitalization effort last decade and a project to renovate the Park Theater in 2015.
“Overall, it’s been a great city to work for and I’ve really enjoyed every single day,” Brock said. “I’m proud of what I’ve done and it’s been a great experience working here at the city.”
Brock said his retirement will be spent at home as he tends to a few projects that have slipped away over the years.
“My wife and I have two young children at home and I’m going to get to be with them,” Brock said. “It’s a rare occasion that you get to be with your kids when you retire and I’m looking forward to that.”
Brock said he will not be involved with city government once he retires, but he will maintain his presence with different community groups around town.
The city plans to name a new city administrator sometime next year.
Brock’s retirement becomes effective February 1, 2019.
