Boyd To Serve Putnam Schools for Additional Year

The Putnam County Board of Education voted to extend the Director of Schools Jerry Boyd’s contract to 2021.

Boyd said he felt flattered by the positive support from the Board of Education.

“I am always appreciative when they take that action, they extend my contract. I believe through their feedback,” Boyd said. “That is just a boost of confidence of course and I certainly appreciate their trust. And I take that very seriously and hope to continue to serve as long as I can, especially through the existing contract.”

Boyd also received an annual pay increase of $2,000.

With an additional year decided upon, Boyd said he knows that stability is a positive to his service.

“You know, there have been so many changes in the State of Tennessee and across the nation in public education,” Boyd said. “I think just us having some stability in times of a lot of changes is one of the positives. You know, not really protecting the status quo mindset but we are able to continue to focus on our students.”

The Board of Education reported Boyd’s overall evaluation score as 4.48 on a 5 point scale.

Boyd’s original contract was set to expire on June 30, 2020.
