Blood Assurance Seeking Platelet Donations

Blood Assurance hopes some donors will step up to the plate for platelet donation.

Donor Coordinator Trudy Cody said platelets are needed by trauma patients, individuals with chronic disease and newborns. Platelets must be used within five days of donation, so there’s always a need for them, she said.

The donation doesn’t sit on the shelf long, and folks can donate more frequently, Cody said.

“Platelets, if you want to do platelets, you have to come into the center, it takes a little longer, you can come in every 14 days, every two weeks,” Cody said.

This month, Blood Assurance is offering first time platelet donors a $10 Visa gift card, Cody said.

Donors can stop by the Blood Assurance center on Cookeville’s West Broad Street from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or on the fourth Saturday of the month. Appointments can be made at Bloodassurance.com.
