Baxter To Use $85K Grant Funds For Body Cam, Car Cam Upgrades

City of Baxter projected to use some $85,000 of Violent Crime Intervention Fund grant money towards equipment upgrades.

Chief Danny Holmes said they were originally approved for just $30,000 and got approval for additional funding. He said they plan to body cams and car cameras

“Just something that maybe the body cam could maybe work with the in-car cameras,” Holmes said. “And we’re also wanting to upgrade our radars, some of them are getting kind of old now. And there are just several things in that grant they will let us use.”

Holmes said they have also explored getting body armor using the grant funds as well. He said these are much-needed upgrades that will help the officers in Baxter continue to improve their service to the community.

Holmes said they expect to hear back about the official award by the end of this month. He said they will have to buy the equipment first and get reimbursed with those funds.

“There’s just a lot of things we’re wanting to upgrade,” Holmes said. “We’re wanting to upgrade the computer systems in our cars as well. So we feel very blessed that we’re able to obtain this grant and anytime you can get free money it’s a good thing.”
