A street light conversion project may be in store for the City of Baxter.
Mayor John Martin said he’ll be meeting with Upper Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation (UCEMC) to discuss LED bulbs.
“They’re going to make a proposal for us to do a pilot [project],” Martin said. “Maybe put LED’s on one street and let us look at them and see what we think about them. Then, we’re going to sit down with him and hopefully change all of our lights in Baxter to LED.”
Martin plans to meet with UCEMC General manager Jimmy Gregory next week to discuss the project. He said the LED conversion would be a huge benefit for the residents of Baxter.
“It’s a considerable cost savings that would be spread out over quite a few years,” Martin said.
Baxter aldermen gave approval for Martin to meet with UCEMC during last week’s meeting.
