Baxter PD Aids In Catching Carjacked Vehicle From Nashville

Baxter Police assisted in apprehending a carjacked vehicle from Nashville on Thursday afternoon.

Sergeant Tory Womack said he received a call from dispatch about a black Nissan Versa stolen from the metro area on Wednesday. He said he spotted the vehicle around mile-marker 280 on I-40. Once backup arrived from Lt. Richard Cobble with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Womack said the officers attempted to pull the vehicle over around mile-marker 273 near Silver Point. 18-year-old driver Deyton Farless subsequently fled from the scene once the officers exited their vehicles.

Womack said they chased Farless to the Smithville area, where the Smithville PD, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, and Tennessee Highway Patrol laid spike strips on Highway 56 to catch the vehicle. He said they then detained Farless and the other three passengers. According to a press release, the other passengers were released at the scene.

Farless was transported and booked into the Putnam County Jail where warrants were obtained for evading arrest, reckless endangerment, theft, and driver without a license. He is currently being held without bond.
