Baxter Man Leads Deputies On High Speed Chase

A 20-year-old Baxter man led Putnam County deputies on a high speed chase Wednesday morning.

Authorities arrested Joshua Layne Clemons for reckless endangerment, evading arrest, and theft of property. He has not yet posted his $30,500 bond.

Clemons was allegedly driving a stolen Nissan Versa when deputies made contact with the vehicle near Key West Inn. An arrest report said Clemons sped away from a traffic stop at speeds over 100 miles per hour. The vehicle became disabled after officers deployed spike strips at the 283 mile marker on Interstate 40.

Deputies also charged Clemons with contributing to the delinquency of a minor after finding marijuana and three juveniles inside the car.
