Baxter Awards Bid For New Trash Cans

The Baxter Board of Mayor and Aldermen have approved bids for citywide garbage cans.

Mayor John Martin said the 90-gallon cans will be picked up by a new side loader garbage truck.

“We’re going to buy probably 1,000 cans and we’ve got probably 800 customers,” Martin said. “Each customer will get a can from the City of Baxter at no cost.”

Martin said residents will have an option to purchase an additional trash can if needed.

Baxter awarded bids for the new garbage truck during its May board meeting. Martin said the board approved a financing plan for the new vehicle last week.

“We’re probably going through rural development for that,” Martin said. “It’s a low interest rate loan and we feel really comfortable about that.”

Martin said the city will begin utilizing the new garbage truck later this year.

“They are building it now,” Martin said. “We should have it online by this fall.”

The new truck will get employees off the back of the current truck and should lower injuries and workman’s comp.
