American Jobs Center Moving This Week

The American Job Center at Cookeville will begin moving to a new location Monday.

Becky Hull is the Executive Director of the Upper Cumberland Local Workforce Development Board. She said the new office will move across town from South Jefferson Avenue to 1000 England Drive.

“The real purpose in this move is we need more space. The space we are at now has served it’s purpose, but we’ve grown so much that we really are just kind of melted and poured in here,” Hull said. “It’s going to be a really nice change for us to be able to have meeting space. More than anything, the best part about the new building is that we will be able to serve our employers, which we currently aren’t able to do.”

Hull said she does not expect regular services to be affected during the four-day move.

“We hope they can expect no disruption of service because we will have The American Job coach coming down and providing services on site for anyone that wants to come in and needs assistance at that time,” Hull said.

Hull said the England Drive location should be operational by August 1.

“This has been a long process and we have been looking at a new site since January of last year,” Hull said. “While we had other sites that were equally as good, the best part about this is that we will be co-locating with our sister agency-the Department of Human Services.”

A mobile job center will be stationed at the South Jefferson Avenue location on Tuesday and Wedensday.
