The American Job Center has opened a location in Gainesboro.
Jackson County Mayor Randy Heady said efforts to open a local workforce office began when he took office two years ago.
“I knew how important it was for this opportunity to be as accessible as possible,” Heady said. “I feel like we put these impediments in front of our citizens when they say that we have to drive 18 miles or come up with gas money. Even if you get reimbursement, you have to have the initial funds. So I wanted to have a presence right here locally in the county.”
Heady said workforce development has always been in Gainesboro, but without a physical footprint.
“I found out that you had to make a phone call if you wanted to get in touch with the American Job Center,” Heady said. “Then, it was preferred that we leave the county.”
The American Job Center at Gainesboro has opened up inside the Memorial Building on Hull Avenue. Heady said residents can receive services on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We need workers,” Heady said. “We have some industrial factories that have job openings and we have some other private businesses that have job openings. We’re just looking for people to fill those positions.”
Heady said the local job center will also assist residents in need of additional training for a career opportunity.
