Algood’s Green Mountain Water Project Officially Completed

Algood’s Green Mountain Water Project has officially reached completion, expanding water access to customers in the Green Mountain Road and Spring Creek Road areas.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said construction started in April of last year. He said it has been a process trying to get the booster pumps and other needed equipment to the site.

“Getting the pump station installed, the line has been in for several months and we had to work with the power company to get an easement for electricity over to the station and get the station fully operational and primed and then do a startup on the pump and then test the water for safety so all of that has made it through,” Morrison said. “So that station is officially online now.”

Morrison said it took longer than expected due to issues with the pump station and getting the easement. He said now that it is completed, they are excited to be able to provide an opportunity to get more folks safe drinking water.

Morrison said if residents would like to get connected, they can come to city hall and apply for an active water account with the city. He said the resident will have to run lines from the meter to their house to connect it in and then the city will drop the meter in.

“It’ll add a few customers and give them good drinking water it may even add some opportunities for folks to build houses that maybe couldn’t have a well there before so it may add some houses for the county,” Morrison said. “But it’s a good thing for us to be able to provide safe drinking water for these folks.”

The project was made possible through a partnership with Algood and Putnam County. The county allocated some of its federal COVID money to help offset the costs. Morrison said the city will be responsible for maintenance and depreciation.
