Algood To Unveil Master Plan For Future 22-Acre Park

Design firms will unveil the master plan for Algood’s future 22-acre park later this month.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said community members can view the plan and provide input during an October 22 public meeting.

“As soon as we get that input from the public we will make any necessary adjustments,” Morrison said. “Then we will sit down with the designer and decide on what phases are necessary and then start beginning phasing work, depending on how the council wants to approach it and how much money that want to put into each phase as we move forward. We’ll also try to get grants to move the phases forward as well.”

Algood City Council hired Clinton Engineering of Cookeville to conduct the park’s master plan in December 2018. The firm used community ideas from previous public meetings to piece together a preliminary design. The city spent $760,000 to purchase land for the park two years ago. The property sits off Main Street just before Thompson Lane.

Morrison said the park construction will be broken into phases and could take several years to complete,

“This is going to be probably a 5 to 10 year plan to develop the whole park,” Morrison said. “But we would like to phase it to where we can get pieces of it put together so the public can begin using it within the next year or two.”

“This is going to be a big draw for the City of Algood, so I think it’s going to have a huge impact on the future and our citizens,” Morrison said. “I think the impact is just going to be phenomenal for what it’s going to draw into town.”

The unveiling of the master plan will take place October 22 at 5 p.m. inside Algood City Hall.
