The City of Algood has switched internet service providers.
The city council voted earlier this month for city departments to utilize Twin Lakes instead of Frontier.
City Administrator Keith Morrison said he requested the change after experiencing problems with Frontier’s services.
“Our utility server went down this past year and the internet was so slow that it took it several weeks to get all the downloads done and back online,” Morrison said. “We realized that it was just not keeping up with times and we needed to do something.”
Internet speeds will increase by up to 25 times under Twin Lakes. Morrison said the change also benefits the city because the county and 911 already use services provided by Twin Lakes.
“This gets it down to one provider,” Morrison said. “If we run into a connection issue, it’s one provider working on both ends trying to figure out where the problem is.”
Morrison said Twin Lakes will save the city a little more than $4,300 a year. The utility will provide services to city hall, the fire department, police department, public works and community center.
