City of Algood recognized by the Tennessee Municipal League for Excellence in Community Development.
Mayor Lisa Chapman-Fowler said she is honored and humbled by the award. She said it recognizes the efforts of the city of Algood has brought together employees from all levels of municipal government to improve the quality of life for those in the community.
“Out of 345 towns, they chose Algood and it is just an amazing honor,” Chapman-Fowler said. “And I think what it goes to prove what I’ve been saying for years now, which is that we strive to see that it is always all good in Algood.”
Chapman-Fowler said much of the award has to do with the city making great strides on its parks and recreation offerings. She said the city has just finished the first phase of the Algood City Park that will provide 21 acres of recreation opportunities in the future. She said TML also commended the city’s Parks and Recreation Department for providing facilities maintenance and allowing for the creation the new Algood Fall Festival and Easter celebration and expansion of other events.
In addition to the parks and recreation efforts, Chapman-Fowler said it was the city’s efforts to improve utility offerings to its residents. She said the city completed a waterline expansion that will serve both municipal and county residents as well as sewer expansions into areas suffering from system failures.
“I was really surprised,” Chapman-Fowler said. “But I am honored and I am humbled that TML has decided to give us this award (…) I was totally surprised, but like I said I am totally honored by this.”
Chapman-Fowler said the city is set to receive the official award Tuesday, July 25, at the 83rd Annual Conference of the Tennessee Municipal League.
