Algood Moving Forward With Big Mac Drive Extension

Algood has moved forward with a project to add a second entrance to Walmart.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said surveying will soon begin for the expansion of Big Mac Drive.

“They are working on getting the survey. We’ve also got our engineer working on a spec sheet to get us through there,” Morrison said. “We’re also applying for permits to get that project moving forward, so when we get that information we’ll be ready to go to bid.”

A property owner gave Algood the land that’s needed for extending the road to Walmart. In exchange, the city will provide the owner with a 150-foot utility extension.

Morrison said last month that the second entrance will hopefully alleviate some issues with traffic congestion.

“If they wanted to go left or across to Cooper, this would hopefully alleviate some of our traffic concerns,” Morrison said. “As well as any traffic from Overton County and Livingston that went to Walmart. They could avoid the light, go out to Big Mac Drive and make an immediate right to get to (Highway) 111.”

Walmart has requested to review the final plans, but Morrison said they have no objections to the project.
