Algood Head Start Roof Replacement Project Targeted For Summer

Algood’s L.B.J.& C. Head Start building will receive a new roof.

Algood City Administrator Keith Morrison said they’ve tried patching the roof, however leaks continued in the building. Morrison said after roughly a year of doing repairs, a full replacement has to happen.

“You can’t keep putting it off when it’s leaking that bad,” Morrison said. “You’ve got all those electronics and electrical stuff and kids in the building. So it needs to be dealt with and fixed if we’re going to to continue to keep the building and lease it out. It’s in such bad shape that I don’t really have a choice.”

Morrison said the goal is to have the replacement complete by the end of summer so it is out of the way when school starts back. Morrison said the current cost estimate is roughly $80,000.

Morrison said he hopes roofing costs do not rise in the same way that lumber costs are.

“We’re hoping they’re not, I’m afraid that might be the case but we’re hoping to get it reasonable and hoping to get it in right now before they do get that way,” Morrison said. “But I have a feeling at some point they’re going to start going up, as well.”

The Algood L.B.J.& C. Head Start is located at 180 West Church Street. Morrison said that Head Start leases the building from Algood.
