Algood is considering installing LED welcome signs for the north and south entrances of town.
City Administrator Keith Morrison said they want to expand the idea of just normal “welcome to town” signs. If the idea becomes a reality the signs would be used for public information, promote events and advertise.
“We’ll be preparing for the July 1 budget,” Morrison said. “The idea would be to include some money in the July 1 budget to possibly bid this project out and get it done. We have previously bid out signs but they didn’t have the LED sign component. They were just kind of a City of Algood welcome sign.”
Morrison said that because bids on welcome signs usually come at a high price, Algood wants to put all the elements they want into one sign. Morrison said the southern sign would be on Main Street off of 10th Street and the northern sign would be on Highway-111.
“There’s actually a couple of signs there that say Welcome To Algood, but we’ve been looking at those for a few years now to try and dress them up,” Morrison said. “Make them look nicer and really create a welcoming atmosphere with a nice sign.”
Morrison said Algood uses social media and other signage to promote community information, but wants a quicker, easier way to display information. Morrison said the LED displays could be incorporated into existing signs. Morrison said the price on these signs will be determined by bids, if this idea moves forward.
