Judd Settling In As Algood’s Full-Time Fire Chief

Algood’s first full-time fire chief getting settled into the day-to-day of his new job.

Fire Chief David Judd said his appointment will allow him to focus all of his attention on the city and fire department as before he was a volunteer and would have to split his time at the fire department with his job. Judd said having a full-time fire chief for the department will give them the ability to help the community in new ways.

“We’re running medical calls, fire calls,” Judd said. “We’ve started doing some extrication. I’m extrications trained. So it just opens up a whole litany of opportunities for the citizens of Algood.”

Judd said the city began working with MTAS last August to choose the best candidate for the role. He said he had served as the interim chief for the fire department since December, 2022.

“I’ve dedicated my whole career, pretty much my whole adult life, to fire service,” Judd said. “From walking in day one in 2004 as a kid that just wanted to help his community to today.”

Judd said he began working with the Algood Fire Department as a volunteer on June 14, 2004.

“We’re going to be able to have someone here during the day that’s going to be answering calls, looking at growing the department in a more positive direction,” Judd said.

He said he has worked as a firefighter and advanced EMT for Wilson County, an advanced EMT for Putnam County, and spent eighteen years working in Algood’s public works department.
