White County Schools Get Money For Security

A three-year grant headed to White County to help the school system with cybersecurity grant.

White County Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said the $150,000 grant will help beef up computer security systems throughout the school system. Dronebarger said protecting the personal information of students and teachers is a high priority.

“Technology is running the world right now but you got to protect yourself from all kinds of intruders,” Dronebarger said. “Not just those that want to come in through your front door but they want to come through in your infrastructure or your internet infrastructure do this is important to make sure that our systems are protected.”

Dronebarger said White County Schools stands as one of four school districts in the state that received the grant.

“We just received the notification today but we are really excited,” Dronebarger said. “You know one of four districts in the whole state. There was 200,000,000 million that was through this consortium spread out across the country and so for us to be one of four out of Tennessee is a great honor.”

Dronebarger said what will be purchased is to be determined. However, Dronebarger said it could be a combination of things.

“Our IT folks will work with them with the grant awardees and they will look at different computer systems,” Dronebarger said. “There might be hardware involved but certainly software of packages and different things put in place to make sure that our schools are safe.”
