The Overton County School Board wants to purchase two trucks for the district.
Director of Schools Donnie Holman said the trucks would go to the maintenance department and the bus garage to help pick up vehicle parts. Holman said the funding was originally approved during the pandemic but the vehicles were unavailable until now.
“No one could hardly buy vehicles back then,” Holman said. “So we put out bids back then but we weren’t successful with it as virtually no one was trying to buy a car back then. So now we will go to the county commission to ask for that money to be moved over from fund balance back over to us so that we can buy these vehicles.”
Holman said the district started working towards the purchase again after hearing from vendors that the vehicles are readily available. Holman said the district has to go forward with the acquisition because both vehicles will be vital for those departments.
“We’re in hopes that that’ll make their departments run smoother and easier and just have less problems on a day-to-day basis,” Holman said.
Board Chair William Abston said there are some $103,000 that were previously approved for the trucks. Abston said the board will have to rebid for the vehicles in the future. The School Board will ask County Commissioners for approval.
“This is just something that we had already approved and there is a need for it,” Holman said. “So we decided to move on it.”
