Pickleball Courts Could Open In Early December

Six new pickleball courts being installed at the Cookeville Community Center are on track to be completed by the end of the year.

Putnam County Parks and Rec Director Cody Maynard said with the steady rise of pickleball over the last few years, Maynard said it was the right time to build these courts. He said that the desire for courts has only increased since they started construction.

“We believe the courts will be used daily and nightly, seven days a week,” Maynard said. “It continues to be the fastest growing sport that I’ve seen in a very long time.”

He said that there have been no hiccups in construction and the courts could be completed by the first of December.

“As of right now everything is running smoothly,” Maynard said. “And I’m looking for the lights to be installed sometime after the first of the year.”

Alongside the pickleball project, Maynard said the tennis courts at the Cookeville Community Center would be getting some attention. He said the will be filling in cracks and gaps in the courts and replacing nets.

Maynard said the concrete was done by the Concrete Gentlemen and Fences of Excellence are doing the exterior fencing. With this being a local, national and global craze, Maynard said these courts being installed has many people excited.

“As far as myself, the department and the county as a whole we always look to try to figure out a way to involve public activity and to improve the facilities,” Maynard said. “So it is a major blessing on our part to be able to get this done and see it used throughout the community.”
