Light Voter Turnout At Polls In Livingston So Far

Voter turnout has been light at the polls in Livingston Tuesday with two aldermen seats and the mayoral seat up for grabs.

Overton County Election Administrator Craig Story said he estimates some 750 votes in the final count, including early voting. He said the numbers are lower than he would have liked and he hopes to see a big rush before the 7:00pm cutoff.

“We won’t be doing anything until after the polls close and every voter has a chance to cast their ballots,” Story said. “So if we have somebody standing in line at 7:00pm, you know, if it takes them 10 minutes to do that, we’re not going to release any numbers until every vote has been cast.”

Story said the voting process has gone smoothly at the polls. He poll workers will begin counting as soon as the polls close and he hopes to have results announced around 8:30pm.

“Each election is different,” Story said. “You’ve got to compare apples to apples and not make, you know, comparisons to something that’s not the case. Two years ago, we didn’t even have a contested race in the town of Livingston election, so we didn’t even have early voting, so each one’s a little different.”
