Algood will reevaluate its paving bid packet after receiving no interest from companies.
City Administrator Keith Morrison said the city tried a new approach by bidding out paving by the ton.
“We did it for a six month period, and of course, we didn’t give any specifics on exactly what we are paving or how much,” Morrison said. “We’ll check on it and see. We’re just trying some different strategies.”
Morrison said the city was trying to follow after Cookeville’s strategy. Morrison said the goal was to lock in a price to do as much paving as possible. Morrison said however, he believes increased prices has changed how companies bid.
“Right now it is a little bit different with the increases in materials, so we didn’t get any bids with this bid proposal,” Morrison said. “We may try it again to see what happens.”
Morrison said if the city does not receive bids again, it would likely turn to bidding out specific road projects. Morrison said the city has been trying to repave Mill Street.
‘We’ve got some smaller streets in town and some regular street paving that needs to be updated,” Morrison said. “Typically, we try to pick four or five streets a year and pave those, but we just haven’t been able to accomplish that this year.”
