One Fatality After Van Buren Flooding, Most Roads Back Open

One fatality after flooding in Van Buren County Wednesday night.

EMS Director and PIO Tiwanna Bricker said that a vehicle was swept away on Mooneyham Lonewood Road with two occupants. One occupant passed away and one was transported to the hospital.

Road Supervisor Randy Oakes said most Van Buren roads are back open after the heavy flooding.

Oakes said that employees are still working on Simmons Creek Road and Redd Road. Bricker said that there are reports from dispatch about issues at Rocky River Road as well. Oakes said that all other state roads and county roads should be cleared for travel.

Oakes said that waters reached some two to three feet of water at their lowest point, but has since receded. He said that this was one of the biggest floodings he’d seen.

Oakes said that drivers should continue to exercise caution and common sense when it comes to traveling today. He recommends that if there is any standing water, to “turn around don’t drown.”
