Obituaries For Wednesday, February 3

Lenard Broyles, 92 of Sparta, passed away Tuesday night, February 2 at his home. Arrangements are incomplete.

Mr. Richard Paul England, age 75 of Sparta, passed away Tuesday evening, February 2, 2021 surrounded by his family at his home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Private funeral services for Paul Edward Chaffin, age 62 of Cookeville, will be on Thursday February 4 at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Richard Harris, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery. Mr. Chaffin passed away suddenly Tuesday morning February 2 at his home. He was born May 10, 1958 in Cookeville to his mother, Goldie Myers Jared Chaffin of Cookeville; and his father, the late William “Bill” Nathan Chaffin. Paul was a retired heavy equipment operator. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Judy (Richard) Harris of Knoxville.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Gladys Jean Cody, age 86, will be Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Washington Avenue Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. Bro. Mark Gaw will officiate. Mrs. Cody passed away Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born April 2nd, 1934 in Banner Springs, Fentress Co., TN to the late Theodore and Daisy Maxwell Hall. Jean and her late husband Noble owned and operated Cody Office Supply for over 30 years. She also served on the Tennessee Historical Commission and the Putnam County Election Commission and was a member of Tennessee Tech Faculty Women’s Club, Pilot Club, and the Junior Women’s Club. She also owned and operated Jean’s Consignment Depot where she loved to visit with her friends, family and customers. She enjoyed sharing the good news of Jesus with them and occasionally, selling an item or two. She loved to entertain and had many gatherings through the years for Tennessee Tech, the Republican Party and children in her neighborhood for backyard Bible clubs. She loved her church and teaching Sunday School. She also served on the Washington Ave. Baptist Church building committee. Her family will receive friends Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church.

Funeral services for Pearl Flatt Dyer, 93, of Double Springs, will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Double Springs Church of Christ. Pearl was born February 8, 1927, to George Columbus Flatt and Mary Frances Billingsley Flatt in Jackson County, Tennessee. She married Howard Dyer, son of Carroll and Stella Birdwell Dyer, on November 20, 1948. She and Howard worked at Wilson Sporting Goods for 38 years before retiring together to enjoy and tend their farm and family in Double Springs. They gardened, harvested and canned produce for friends as well as preserving food for their family. Pearl Dyer followed the example of a virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31. She was loved and respected by her family and friends, and will be missed by all. She is survived by her sister: Willa Dean Byers; two daughters: Judy (Russell) Agee and Michelle (Randall) Herron. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m till the time of the service.

Funeral services for Mr. Elbert Wayne Gilpatrick, age 69 of Livingston, will be held on Friday, February 5 at 1 PM at the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. Officiating with the service will be Bro. Eric Dillon. Mr. Gilpatrick passed from this life on Monday evening, February 1 at his residence. Everyone knew him by Wayne; he was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Livingston. Wayne worked as a auto mechanic for years. Wayne loved his family and friends very much. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife, Lechya Gilpatrick; and daughter, Kayla Jenkins and her husband Anthony. The family will welcome friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, Feb. 4th starting at 5 PM until 8 PM.

Memorial Service for Sally Nunley Burrows, 85 of Sparta, will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Jeff Guth officiating. She passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born Thursday, November 7, 1935 in Coalmont, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Matt and Nora Rogers Nunley. She was a caregiver for over 20 years. She loved being with people and spending time with her family. Survivors include son- Mike Burrows (Susan) of McMinnville, TN; Daughters- Sherry Rose (Donnie) of Sparta, TN and Jackie Burrows Miller of Sparta, TN. The family will welcome friends on Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until time of the service at the funeral home.
