CRMC One Step Closer to New Cath Lab

The Cookeville Regional Board of Trustees Finance Committee approved a plan to replace the Medical Center’s Cath Lab.

The $3.63 million project includes a total renovation of the space and the purchase of new equipment. CEO Paul Korth said the budgeted upgrade will take about 18 months to complete.

“We need to get started on this, we need to get documents signed so we can stay on a time frame that we have allocated out,” Korth said during Tuesday afternoon’s meeting.

The full board will consider the upgrade at its Thursday meeting.

The renovation includes about $1.7 million in construction work. Korth said walls and columns be moved as part of the top to bottom work. CRMC will purchase some $1.5 million in equipment for the new Cath Lab. The major cash expenditures for equipment will begin in February.

That includes a ceiling-mounted unit. Korth said that provides more flexibility in the room and makes it easier to use for physicians by cabling the equipment in the ceiling.

“We’ve had multiple discussions with physicians involved in this project,” Korth said. “So they’re well on board.”

The project budget includes some $400,000 to rent a temporary facility.

Korth said the money to pay for the project will come out of cash reserves.
