96 Percent Of Baxter Water Customers Have Opted In To Leak Insurance

Baxter’s water leak insurance program showing success since it was implemented in March 2020.

City Recorder Sharon Carlisle said that about 96 percent of customers have opted in to the coverage operated by Servline, a leak protection company.

“If the customer has a leak, and therefore has a high water bill, they will contact Servline,” Carlisle said. “Servline will ask for information from them where they fixed the leak, and when they do that they will average out their six-month bills and pay the difference for them. So the customer isn’t paying that high bill.”

Carlisle said that at just $2.75 a month, the service can offer up to $2,500 of coverage. She said that the biggest claim covered so far has been for $1,000.

Carlisle said that the city implemented Servline to help save both customers and themselves money when it came to paying for leaks.

“We used to do leak adjustments and we changed it because we were no longer going to be able to do them because it was losing money for the city,” Carlisle said. “So to protect our customers, we thought that this was a great plan to offer it to them.”

Carlisle said that water customers who haven’t yet taken the insurance can call the water department who will get them connected to the Servline.
